A Coast Guard ship and a helicopter are combing the waters of Harbour Grace at this hour after four 911 calls came in this evening indicating a yacht had  capsized. An eyewitness told NTV NEWS that he saw the yacht go down. There are unconfirmed reports that as many as 5 people were on board.

Sept 06, 2010 | The body of Cpl. Brian Pinksen of Corner Brook arrived back in Newfoundland late Monday afternoon. A motorcade took his body from Deer Lake to Corner Brook. Firefighters and local residents lined portions of the highway with Canadian flags to honour the young soldier who died last Monday. View/Comment

Sept 06, 2010 | Police on the Burin Peninsula are investigating an ATV accident that claimed the life of a fifteen year old boy near Golden Bay Sands. Police say witnesses at the scene indicated the youth had been riding on his ATV with a blanket tied around his neck simulating a cape. The blanket became entangled around the rear axle of the ATV and tightened around the neck of the driver, pulling him off the ATV. The investigation is ongoing. View/Comment

Sept 05, 2010 | It’s been a good season for rugby in the province. St. John’s will play host to the Canadian Rugby Championships this month. The Rock beat The Prairie Wolf Pack 27-23 on Saturday to give them home-field advantage. Sept 06, 2010 | Police have laid a murder charge in connection with the death of 32-year-old Ann Marie Shirran.  A 39-year-old man from St. John’s is facing  the charge. The RNC arrested the man at around 11 a.m. Monday. The woman’s body was discovered late last week by campers in the Cappahayden area. Police confirmed the remains were those of Shirran on Sunday evening. The investigation is ongoing. View/Comment

Sept 04, 2010 | Police are investigating yet another armed robbery in the metro area. The RNC say a lone male armed with a knife got away with an undisclosed amount of cash following an incident at a Subway location on Friday night. In the meantime, the RNC have arrested a youth for his alleged connection with earlier incidents at Ultramar stations on Kenmount Road and Blackmarsh Road.
