Darrin Bent
Darrin Bent has been an integral
part of the NTV News Team since back in 1988. In this province he was a
pioneer in the rapidly developing class of reporters known as photojournalists.
The photojournalist is a reporter who acts as his or her own cameraman and
becomes in effect a self-contained reporting unit. In this area Darrin has
been breaking new ground. He can been seen on a daily basis reporting on
the various aspects of the criminal justice system. His work beat includes
work from the Provincial Courts, the Supreme Court and from the province's
various law enforcement agencies. He is probably best known for a gripping
series entitled "After Dark". That series is an inside look at
law enforcement with the night patrol of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
.
For Darrin Bent's entry into the world of journalism was through newspapers.
He moved from there to radio in St. John's and when the opportunity presented
itself, joined the NTV News Team. As a photojournalist with NTV and, using
the latest in portable lightweight cameras, Darrin Bent is constantly expanding
the envelope of what is possible in news gathering.
